Official Advisory from the Jamaica Mixed Martial Arts Sports Federation (JMMASF)

Subject: Public Clarification Regarding Unauthorized Use of Federation-Like Branding

The Jamaica Mixed Martial Arts Sports Federation (JMMASF), the officially recognized governing body for Mixed Martial Arts in Jamaica, issues the following advisory to clarify recent developments involving an individual operating under the name Jamaica Mixed Martial Arts Sports (JMMAS).

Recently, the Federation was contacted by an individual identifying himself as Mr. White, who claimed to be a promoter based in the United States. Mr. White expressed interest in hosting an MMA event in his birthplace, St. Elizabeth, Jamaica. During these discussions, he requested administrative access to the official MMA Jamaica website, stating that such access would allow him to leverage the Federation’s legitimacy when approaching potential sponsors.

Mr. White was informed that, in accordance with Federation policy, promotional materials for any event may only be posted after the event has been formally reviewed and sanctioned by JMMASF. He was also advised that the Federation’s official website cannot be used to conduct or facilitate the full promotion of privately organized events.

Following multiple unsuccessful attempts to persuade various board members to grant him website access, Mr. White proceeded to create an independent website for his promotional activities. Despite clear communication from the Federation, he chose to name his platform Jamaica Mixed Martial Arts Sports (JMMAS)—a name nearly identical to the official Jamaica Mixed Martial Arts Sports Federation (JMMASF), differing only by the omission of the letter “F.” This naming choice creates a significant likelihood of public confusion and misrepresentation.

Furthermore, the JMMAS website presents information in a manner that may lead the public to believe that the organization is compliant with national and international regulatory bodies or that it serves as the official governing authority for MMA in Jamaica. These representations are inaccurate and misleading.

Official Facts for Public Awareness

  • JMMAS is not a registered entity in Jamaica.
  • JMMAS is not recognized or approved by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) or the Ministry of Sports as the governing body for MMA in Jamaica.
  • JMMAS is not authorized to conduct athlete trials, select national representatives, or send athletes to international competitions, including but not limited to the Pan American Championships.
  • JMMAS is not in compliance with the official governing body in Jamaica and is currently planning to host an unsanctioned event.

Federation Position

The Jamaica Mixed Martial Arts Sports Federation remains committed to protecting the integrity of the sport, safeguarding athletes, and ensuring that all MMA activities conducted within Jamaica meet the required safety, regulatory, and ethical standards.

Any organization or individual wishing to host an MMA event in Jamaica must follow the established sanctioning process. This ensures athlete safety, regulatory compliance, and alignment with national and international standards.

The Federation strongly advises athletes, sponsors, gyms, and the general public to verify the legitimacy of any MMA-related event or organization before participating or offering support.
